Another 70 MW pumped into national grid

Supplies from the new station are expected to complement power shortfalls during peak periods. The station is also temporary in nature, being a stop gap measure, while the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) finalises more long term solutions to the power crisis.

Yesterday, upbeat Alstom Power Rentals (APR) Energy officials said the 70 MW power station, located 30 kilometres from Francistown, was now contributing to the national supply/demand balance. It is understood that under the three-year contract with the BPC, the American company will operate and maintain the power station.
