Yes, there's a market for our TV products - Mogorosi

Contrary to what most people assume, Botswana's film and television productions have a market both locally and internationally.

Moabi Mogorosi, of Abi Films, said this during a two-day National Broadcasting Board (NBB) conference held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) early this week.  Mogorosi was making a presentation where before commencing he asked the audience if they were interested in seeing a well-produced movie, documentary or robust political debate that was made locally. The crowd answered affirmatively to all the questions and Mogorosi proceeded to say that it showed that indeed there was a market for local videos.  "As long as there is an audience that is willing to embrace the market then yes our video industry should be able to survive anywhere," he said.

Mogorosi said that in the past 16 years, productions made by Batswana have made it internationally even winning awards in some instances. He said this showed that local productions needed to be protected by establishing, among others, a National Film Board that would ensure not only the protection but also the survival of video locally.
