My Star: it's still everyone's Game

Some of the international artists who descended on our shores on Friday, including Black Motion, Siphokazi and Mafikzolo, had little or no impact on the locally brewed music talent show, My Star as it pulled quite a huge crowd.

The Botswana Television (Btv) auditorium was fully packed, proving that Batswana are starting to take their own talent show seriously despite some local organisers still relying heavily on foreign artists. The show, which last week Friday travelled to Jwaneng with 13 contestants, now remains with 11, as Palesa left the show. On Friday another aspirant Tankiso packed her bags after battling it out with Lolo who was saved by the judges. Earlier on Khumo, who is regarded as one of the strongest in the competition with an immerse stage presence, was also among the bottom three but was automatically saved as she had more votes than the rest. Though being one of the vocally talented contestants Lolo seems not to be gaining votes because she is always at the bottom and having to be saved by the judges who somehow still believe in her abilities.

Nonetheless, during her performance after being saved, both judges were not impressed with her, with DJ Sid declaring that he would have sent her packing because she did not show much seriousness." You have the potential to go far or even win this competition but you do not show the determination and urgency to do so," DJ Sid said. Master Dee also lashed out at her after she stopped the song midway when she realised she had lost the key. He told her that he had no time to play games, which seems to be the case with Lolo, as she never sang her songs on key even after being saved from elimination. Singing Whitney Houston's When you believe, Hailey had earlier started the show beautifully, thereby redeeming herself after last week's disastrous performance.
