Chinese firms give Miss Botswana cash boost

Four Chinese-owned companies operating in Botswana - Whitacon, Hitecon, Mileage Air and Gaborone International School - have presented the current Miss Botswana, Emma Wareus with a P 50 000 cheque to travel to China for the 60th Miss World pageant.

Miles Nan, David Qiu, Hu Zhongwen and Chow represented Mileage Air, Whitacon, Hitecon and Gaborone International School respectively.

Speaking for the four companies at a press conference yesterday, Nan said that the Chinese companies support Miss Botswana on an annual basis as part of their social responsibility programme. "The donation will enable the pageant queen to market Botswana's potential to the outside world through her presence at the international event," he said adding that in their strong social responsibility programmes in Botswana, the Chinese community has been involved in various charitable activities that are tailored to improve the welfare of the Botswana society.
