Fans would be involved in voting the winners every weekend starting this coming Saturday. The competition will run for five weeks, and the club says the performances would give participating musicians the opportunity to make money, while upcoming artists involved in the show would also have the opportunity to hone their perfomance skills.
Famous faces such as Exodus, Skazzo, streetgang, Mingo Touch, lead the line up of 18 upcoming artists. Nicodemus Motsele, the promotions manager at Club Zoom, says they have divided the artists into four groups with each group performing on a given weekend, although it was not clear which group will perform on the opening weekend this coming Saturday. The promotions manager claims the groups will share 70 per cent of the gate takings. Club Zoom six months ago transformed from the name The Shebeen. It had changed into the Shebeen two years after opening as Club Havanna. The joint, owned by Steve Raman, also of Sachmos jazz caf, and G-west night club started operating in 2006, as Club Havana, initially for lovers of everything exotic, but it faced competition from modern up- market joints in Phakalane, as well as Lizard Lounge at the Village, while other spectacular hangouts such as News Cafe, Khwest, and others provided stiff competition for the up-market joy-riders.
