Seems like we are in the dark

The recent fall out from the takeovers of BMC FC and Township Rollers fc have highlighted how much we understand, or to put it more blatantly, how much we don't understand our football administration dynamics and exactly how our football is run or should be run. What seemed like a simple transaction of having some rich guy invest into a team has borne fights, contempt, arguments, war of words, near fist fights, court cases and in the case of BMC a suspension for the club. What we had all hoped for and wished happen; monied guys coming into our football, has seemingly stroked a great hullabaloo. And as things stand, most of us, don't know what exactly is happening.

At the beginning of the season there was great joy with the imminent coming in of the Ghoudratti’s, Jagdish Shah, Mogapi and Sayed Jamali. As is always the case, there were the doubting thomasses. While others received and welcomed the take-overs with open arms, others were resistant and skeptical.  We all know what happened in the lead up to all these take-overs. There was anxiety all over. Impromptu meetings were held every other day as groupings mapped the way forward. Something was about to hit the fan, and indeed it did hit the fan. Even as we speak, there are big pockets of resistance to the Township Rollers, BMC, Notwane and Centre Chiefs take-overs. It’s just that those at Popa and BMC are really pronounced right now, while others are hush – hush. But wait for it; something will happen sooner rather than later. At the moment we are enjoying the BMC and Popa showdowns. As things stand, BMC has copped a 14 day suspension to try and put their house in order. This came after the Palapye debacle where 2 sides proclaiming to be BMC pitched up for a game. Thus far, the side has not played any games, and if this matter is not sorted out soon, I foresee pandemonium.  At Township Rollers, a court case has been registered.

What has really come out from these take-overs, especially the BMC and Township Rollers cases is that most of us; football loving Batswana, don’t really understand the dynamics of our football and its administration. Trying to get an explanation from even those people I thought would be in know to make me decipher and understand what is really going on or how these impasses can be resolved has been a major challenge. It seems like everyone understands the situations differently, thus the confusion that currently reigns. Up to now, I still don’t understand as to how Sonny Phiri can lay claim to BMC FC when the team was said to be a BMC social club. Up to now I don’t understand how BMC, the company can hand over a team to the Ghoudratti’s without the involvement of the BMC FC committee. And then there is the issue of the Registrar of Society, and then I get even more confused.
