The Botswana Football League (BFL) and the Botswana Football Association (BFA) are involved in talks on whether to start the FNB Premiership this weekend or to postpone action.
The BFL wants teams on the pitch as from tomorrow, but the BFA argues that, due to the ongoing COSAFA CAF Champions League Women's qualifiers, kick-off must be deferred.
"We will update soon; there are still pending issues to close, then we can confirm the way forward," acting BFL chief executive officer, Idah Moinisi, said this morning (Thursday). It is reported that the BFL has proposed starting the season tomorrow, and then break on Saturday to give space to the Champions League qualifier final and then resume league action on Sunday. The league body argues that action cannot be delayed, particularly with Gaborone United and Jwaneng Galaxy preparing for CAF Club competitions, which kick off next week. But the BFA wants postponement of league action to a later date. "Indeed, the BFA requested the postponement of the FNB Premiership Week 1 to allow for the Conclusion of the Women's COSAFA qualifiers. BFL is yet to respond to the request, but we are hopeful they will consider the request," acting BFA chief executive officer, Bathusi Rathari, said.
