The Mares striker, Refilwe Tholakele, was named Sportswoman of the Year at the Vunani Annual Women's Sports Awards ceremony held at the Lekidi Football Centre on Saturday night.

The former Township Rollers forward has been exceptional for both the national team as well as her new employers, Mamelodi Sundowns. Meanwhile, the Mares were named Team of the Year following their successful CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualification.

The Women Sports Awards took place at the prestigious Lekidi Football Centre, honouring the achievements and contributions of women to the sports industry. The event was a celebration of talent, dedication, and perseverance, showcasing the incredible accomplishments of female athletes, administrators, journalists, and officials. The awards had 11 categories in which the winners walked away with cash prizes and a trophy. The primary objective of the event was to recognise and celebrate the country’s female sport excellence.
