Unions representing teachers are against the government's proposed payment for participation in school sport activities, with the deadlock persisting. In February 2026, the Ministry of Sport and Arts (MoSA) sent a proposal that school sport be resumed and P625 payment for coaches, whilst technical officials were allocated P200 per day.

The ministry stated the competition model would change from the previous one to include competition at district, region, and national levels.

Assistant Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Justin Hunyepa, met with teachers' unions this week to expedite negotiations that have stalled for seven years.
