Speaking to MmegiSport, Koveya said being part of the executive committee means that Botswana has a say in continental matters and, most importantly, the power to decide. The committee is tasked with planning and implementing objectives to grow and develop Squash in Africa and by extension to the rest of the world. “This, however, is not isolated to the rest of the sport fraternity at home, regionally, and internationally as squash has recently been admitted into the Olympics and will be having its debut appearance at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games,” she said.
Koveya said it is also an opportunity to grow awareness about squash in Botswana, in collaboration with other African members. “This growth critically includes gender equality in the sport, which the World Squash Federation (WSF) is actively pursuing with my involvement through a steering committee led by WSF leadership. My secretary-general position now makes me the direct link for Africa to the WSF,” she said. Koveya said that also translates to the Botswana Squash Rackets Association being better positioned to attract better funding, which, at the moment, planned activities are very limited to implement due to insufficient funding.
