The FNB Premiership season is scheduled to kick off next weekend, defying recent boardroom wrangles that had cast doubt over the start of the new campaign. In a media statement released today, the acting Botswana Football League (BFL) chief executive officer, Idah Moinisi, said preparations for the start of the new campaign are progressing well.

"The BFL Board of Directors has approved the fixtures for the upcoming season, paving the way for the commencement of the new season," Moinisi said. The season will kick off on August 28, with the festive season break scheduled to run from December 19, 2026, to January 8 2027. The last fixtures of the campaign are expected to take place on May 22, 2027. "The BFL encourages all clubs and relevant stakeholders to take note of the above dates and make the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and successful start to the 2026–2027 season," Moinisi said. "The Botswana Football League looks forward to an exciting and competitive 2026–2027 season and appreciates the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders," she added. Recent leadership wrangles within the BFL had cast doubt over the scheduled start of the season, raising fears that the campaign could be delayed.
