Newly appointed head coach for Sua Flamingoes, Nikola Kavazovic ,was left dismayed by 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Gaborone United (GU) over the weekend, terming it his worst defeat ever in his coaching career.
Kavazovic, who returned to the dug-out of Sua since his stint last year with the club, was roped back following the sudden departure of Mandla Mpofu. The Serbian tactician's return to the mining town club was not so rosy as he lost by a heavy score against Moya goleele. In his post match interview following the defeat, the gaffer stated that it was unfortunate for him to lose by such scores for the first time in his career despite coming up against Africa's power houses in Ahl Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns. "I feel very strange; this is the biggest defeat in my career. I did not lose by four goals margin neither to Sundowns or to Al Ahly, neither to Esperance, neither to Yanga. So I never suffered this defeat by four goals margin at all," Kavazovic stated.
Kavazovic, who is on a two-year contract, shared that despite the thrashing, he is not livid with his players but wants more from his camp going into their next game as they cannot lose by that margin. "I am not frustrated at all because we were not so bad as the results show. GU was a better team. They deserve to win but 4-0 is too much. Their goals came from individual brilliance but we will solve this," he said. Additionally he lamented that supporters should give him the benefit of the doubt as he is the right man for the job despite starting off with a loss. "I can return from this defeat because if I don't think I can, I will go home but I am here to stay and I will bring results to this club. It's only the support I am looking for," Kavazovic said.
GU started off on a strong foot probing for an early goal. Just after 14 minutes played, Mothusi Johnson broke the deadlock with a top corner finish to put his side ahead. It was not long before GU found its second to double the lead. The Liberian midfielder, Sheikh Sesay bagged the second goal seconds after Johnson's superb goal. Despite getting two goals in succession time, GU did no put their foot off the pedal as they kept attacking Sua looking to bury the game in the first half. Before the half hour mark, the lanky forward, Thatayaone Kgamanyane, put his name on the score sheet to put his side three goals up. Kgamanyane easily tapped inside the net after receiving the ball all by himself inside the box. Moments before the break, Karabo Phiri missed a one-on-one chance to put GU four goals up. Instantly from the half time break, Sua nearly pulled one back from a free-kick but Ezekiel Morake was on high alert as he parried the ball away. After launching few attacks at Sua, the home side got their fourth goal through substitute, Molaodi Tlhalefang. The latter was set up another substitute, Mateus Domingos, as he tapped the ball into the net.
