The vetting of some of the nominees has resulted in tensions after candidates submitted their names but were adjudged to have failed to meet some of the requirements. The nominations were closed on July 24, and the elections committee evaluated the selections ahead of the August 8 elections. This week, BNSC CEO Olebile Sikwane, who serves as the elections chairperson, announced through a savingram that there were six nominations submitted; however, only three had been properly nominated.
The three are Kagiso Potongwane (cycling), Marea Modutlwa (bowling), and Alex Rankgwe (weightlifting), and they have been given the green light to canvass for votes. “In terms of article 10 of the elections guidelines, there is an elections appeals committee established which is chaired by the chairperson of Sport Volunteer Movement should there be any party aggrieved by the result of the nomination process,” Sikwane said via the correspondence. BNSC marketing and communications manager, Anderson Nlisana, told MmegiSport that there are some nominees who were vetted out after failing to submit the necessary requirements.
