But Leso earned the wrath of Zulu for failure to punish numerous dangerous tackles. Notwane were more on the receiving end of the hard tackles especially from Tumisang 'Butcher' Sekononyana who recently joined GU from BMC. Striker Michael Bulaya suffered most from Sekanonyana and was never protected by the referee. Time and again, Notwane technical bench had to shout at the referee in frustration and eventually team manager Thazo Tiwayi was sent-off.
After the game, Zulu told Monitor Sport that he was disappointed at the way the referee handled the clash. "I do understand that referees are humans and make mistakes but the referee was harsh on my players. The referee flashed yellow cards at my players but did not punish GU players for the same offences. I expected the referee to be consistent," he said.
