Zimbabwean golfers to take part in Central Golf Open

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Central Open, sponsored by petroleum giant, Puma Energy, will have a feel of international class as Zimbabwean golfers make their debut appearance at the annual competition.

Selebi-Phikwe hosts the tournament sponsored for P20,000 and expected to attract between 70 and 80 local golfers. SPGC spokesperson, Palalani Moithobogi told Mmegi Sport that the two-day tournament will be held on May 26 and 27. Moithobogi said an unconfirmed number of Zimbabweans golfers are expected.

The competition has been divided into the Championship Division for handicap nine and below, A Division for handicap 10 to 17 and B Division (handicap 18-24)."The tournament is important to SPGC because our junior golfers get exposure they need. The tournament also attracts potential investors to the copper mining town. You must realise that most golfers are business people," he said. Moithobogi said next year they intend to turn the tournament into a regional event and invite golfers from other countries such as South Africa.
