Zim boy lock wins Botswana junior open tournament

Zimbabwe's Benjamin Lock fought off a tough challenge from his South African rival, Wayne Montgomery to win the Botswana Junior Open Tennis tournament in Gaborone yesterday.

Lock who had a sloppy start to the game piped a stubborn Montgomery 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the event that acts as a warm-up for the ITF/CAF Africa Junior Championships which kick-off today in Gaborone. It was sweet revenge for Lock who lost last two meetings with the South African. "I've lost to him (Montgomery) two times in a row and I was happy to win today," Lock said in a post-match interview. The Zimbabwean was in impeccable form, whipping a series of forehand winners past his much-fancied opponent. He raced off to a 5-1 lead in the first set but his opponent came back strongly and at some point almost levelled the scores. At 5-4, Lock stepped up his game and increased his tally to 6-4 to win the first set.

Montgomery came back for the second set fired up, but his challenger would not yield to the pressure. A determined Lock, got off to a 4-0 lead in the second set and looked poised to kill the match as a contest.
