Zebras to play in refurbished Itekeng Stadium

FRANCISTOWN: The Itekeng Stadium in Orapa will re-open next weekend with an international friendly between the Zebras and the Chipolopolo of Zambia. The Debswana Mining Company stadium had been closed for refurbishments, which were completed last December. A spokesman for the company's Orapa and Letlhakane mines Thapelo Letsholo said that they found it fit to refurbish the stadium in February last year.

He said the works were done in two phases. "The first phase included the athletic track and soccer pitch, both of which cost P5,966,306. The second phase included the construction of the grand stand, public ablution and floodlights, at a cost of P4,411, 072. 81. The total cost of the stadium construction therefore is P10,377,378.81," Letsholo told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

He asserted that the development is part of Debswana's contribution to sports development in Botswana. He said Debswana has sponsored various codes such as netball, not forgetting a recent donation of P99,000 to Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF).
