Zebras to camp in South Africa

Zebras' coach Stan Tshosane has suggested that the national soccer team should go for a two-week training camp in Pretoria, South Africa next week to prepare for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers in March.

The Zebras host Bafana Bafana in a CHAN first round qualifier during the weekend of March 12-13 before travelling to South Africa for the return leg two weeks later. "Our first CHAN qualifier will be against South Africa at the beginning of March which is not far away. I would want a situation whereby we have two weeks of intense preparations prior to the first leg match against Bafana Bafana. I feel a training camp before the first qualifier will go a long way in aiding our preparations," Tshosane told Mmegi Sport. He said he has made the recommendation of a training camp to the Botswana Football Association (BFA). However, he might have problems with assembling a team early next month since the league would have resumed after the festive season break. Sources at BFA have told Mmegi Sport that the request to take the Zebras for a training camp in South Africa has been accepted.

"The team will have a two-week training camp starting from the second week of January at the University of Pretoria. The BFA is also arranging that they play a few practice matches while in Pretoria in preparation for the CHAN qualifiers," said the source.  CHAN will be Tshoshane's first major engagement after his appointment as substantive national team coach at the beginning of last month. He had been working in a caretaker capacity since the departure of Briton Colwyn Rowe in June last year.
