Zebras force early Premier League kick-off

The be MOBILE Premier League may start early to give the Zebras enough time to prepare for their maiden appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January next year.

Traditionally, the competition kicks off in the third week of August, but because of the 2012 AFCON preparations, the Botswana Premier League (BPL) has reportedly agreed in principle, to start the new season on the second weekend of July. If all goes well, this means the campaign will start on July 9. The Botswana Football Association (BFA) met on Tuesday to discuss the issue and indications are that its will sanction the move.

With the national team set for a debut appearance at the continental showpiece, preparatory games and camps are likely to disrupt the league programme hence the need to adjust the schedule.
