ANTANANARIVO: The national soccer team, Zebras, were booted out of the 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers when they went down 1-0 to Madagascar at the State Municipal Mahamasina Stadium yesterday afternoon.

The loss means the Zebras will miss out of the third phase of the qualifiers and their date against Mozambique on October 11 in Gaborone will just be a formality. The Zebras' woes were not helped by the numerous chances they missed in the second half.

The Zebras went into the game with their spirits high, gunning for maximum points. But the visitors were in for a rude shock as their opponents attacked them from the first whistle. The Indian Ocean islanders' short-passing game proved to be problematic for the Zebras.
