Youth league launched in Phikwe

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Youth league football was officially launched in Selebi-Phikwe at the weekend, with calls for more government support for sports in the country.

Guest speaker and Selebi-Phikwe West MP, Kavis Kario, said at the event that it was crucial the government commits more resources to sport. He said the government should ensure the provision and repair of infrastructure like the Selebi-Phikwe Stadium, which needs upgrading.

"I believe there is need for total commitment from the government in the development of sport. In order for sport codes to grow, we must have infrastructure and the government has to channel a healthy subvention to the BNSC," Kario said. He said there is need to create a focused and competitive environment through bidding for international events like the 2016 Africa Cup of Nations to coincide with the Vision 2016 target year.
