MOCHUDI: It is becoming tough for veterans as youngsters showed them a clean pair of heels in the cross-country final on Saturday.

In the senior men event, the seasoned Kaelo Mosalagae of Lefika Athletics Club (LAC) appeared befuddled after he was upstaged by Godiraone Nthompe of Gaborone Runners Club (GRC) who clocked 41:03:50. The barefooted Mosalagae who has been dominant on the local scene seemed to have lost his poise at the end of the race when he claimed that he was not aware that it was over after he was beaten to second place in the 12 kilometres event.

Though there were officials reminding runners of the number of laps left, Mosalagae refused to accept the results claiming that nobody was making the announcement. He said when the race ended, he was not aware that it was the last lap because no one told him. However, he hailed youngsters for giving veterans tough competition.
