World Cup trophy comes to Botswana

Weeks after the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy came to Gaborone courtesy of Stanbic Bank, it has been announced that the FIFA World Cup trophy is on the way.

Leading soft drink company, Coca-Cola said at a media briefing at Lekidi Football Centre on Wednesday that the FIFA trophy will be in Gaborone on November 6.

With the World Cup coming to Africa for the first time in 2010, Coca-Cola signed an agreement with FIFA to take the trophy around the continent for African fans to see.  The trophy tour started in Egypt. It arrives in Botswana in a chartered plane. It will be taken to the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) for a 48-hour stay in the country.
