Women football cries for money

The future of the women football league hangs in the balance as the going gets tougher for the organisers.

It is not even clear if this year's edition will start next month as was initially planned. It has since emerged that some clubs have indicated that they are unable to take part in the league because of financial constraints.

Since its revival three seasons ago, the league has been pulling on heavy gear and it looks the organisers are ready to give up. The league committee chairperson, Ishmael Mokome said the league will not take-off if they do not get a bail-out from the Botswana Football Association (BFA). He said they have been running the league from their own pockets because they do not have a sponsor. He added that their situation has been compounded by the fact that there were no awards at the end of the season.
