The Serb booked his place in the November event at the O2 in London with his victory over Rafael Nadal in the final of the Rome Masters on Sunday. The win adds another 1000 ATP ranking points to his tally this year, which now stands at 6,975, guaranteeing him qualification for the season-ending finale for the fifth successive year.

Djokovic won the 2008 World Tour Final, which is open only to the world's top eight players based on their results for the year. He becomes only the second player, after Nadal in 2009, to qualify for the tournament before the French Open since 1990.
