*FIFA unravels complex calculations
FIFA has explained why the Zebras slid in the latest rankings despite registering a win and draw in March and securing a first-ever qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The Zebras have dropped from 13th to 14th in Africa and 67th to 69th in the world. "The reason why Botswana lost points is that one match in 2007 is out of the calculation when you compare March with April," FIFA's communication and public affairs division told Mmegi Sport. FIFA explained that the rankings are based on the team's performance in the last four years.

Additionally, the rankings take into consideration the strength of the opponent. Botswana played lesser-ranked opponents during the period under review (March), which means they garnered fewer points.
