The thousands who packed Bulawayo's Barbourfields Stadium in the old Mzilikazi suburb had every reason to stand up and salute a 'gallant' Zebras despite the 1-0 loss to home side, the Warriors of Zimbabwe. The Bulawayo fans had adopted the Botswana team as their own after their impressive victories over Swaziland and Seychelles, which sent them through to the quarterfinals.

Pontsho Moloi was seen as the 'golden boy' in the Zebras' side. His ability to slice into any defence won him the hearts of the Bulawayo fans. Moloi was operating from the flank, where Peter Ndlovu, arguably the best soccer export to emerge from Zimbabwe in the last two decades, strutted his stuff. A teenage Ndlovu made his mark at Barbourfields Stadium with darting runs and sublime dribbling skills, which saw him catch the eye of Coventry City who were then campaigning in the English Premiership. He is still adored by many in his hometown.
