Can it be said that Botswana's participation in the COSAFA Castle Challenge in Zimbabwe has been fruitful? Perhaps yes. There were notable improvements on the performance of the team for the simple reason that they met Swaziland for the first time in the competition and won.

They had drawn 0-0 against the Comoros in the opening match, raising questions about whether they have enough talent to compete at the highest levels. Serious questions were asked when the Zebras failed to beat minnows Comoros. And for sure, Botswana fans were livid, especially after some had travelled to watch the duel. Speaking before the tournament started, coach Stanley Tshosane, in his second spell in charge, said he brought young players to give them exposure.

"We missed out on the Nations Cup and World Cup, so we are looking forward to exposing them to playing in a competition format. We have a young team, made up mostly of the Under-23s and this tournament is vital for their future development towards the senior national side. If you look at our opponents - Comoros, Seychelles and Swaziland, all those countries are placed below us on the FIFA rankings, so there is certainly an expectation from the people back home that we make the knockout rounds.
