Weather setback to delay Softball second round

The first set of Shell League southern region games had to be cancelled on Saturday due to the rains, a development that will delay the recommencement of the second round.

Botswana Softball Association (BSA) had set the last two weekends of January to complete the first round fixtures before going into the second round of the season next month. But only one game kicked off albeit going only as far as the fifth inning. All other games in Jwaneng and in Gaborone had to be cancelled and will be rescheduled.

BSA competitions organiser, Renny Molete said the rains had disturbed them and hopes the first round games will soon be completed.  "We had no option but to cancel the games because of the rains. The idea was to complete the first round fixtures before proceeding to the second," he told Sport Monitor. But the game pitting second-placed Wells against third-placed Police IX almost lived to the billing. The two teams were level at 3-3 when the game was stopped.
