Outgoing Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe says although strides have been made in sports development, more still needs to be done. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Mmegi Sport, Kokorwe said while the government has channelled a lot of resources to sport, this is not enough.

The minister, who assumed office last April, said the enactment of a Sports Act is crucial to sports development. "I feel we need to have a Sports Act which will come with role clarity. Even if we have achieved stability among the three sports bodies (BNSC, BNOC, DSR) we need such an Act to drive us forward," Kokorwe said. She is happy that the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC), the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) are now working in sync.

She said although she is happy with progress in the sports ministry, her tenure was too short to achieve all her goals. "It (time) couldn't be enough. I still had a lot to do but then it is time for me to go," she said.
