Vultures drill volunteers from charity organisation

Representatives from the Botswana national rugby team, the Vultures have held an introductory course for 23 volunteer sports coaches from The King's Foundation.

The Vultures have had one of their most successful runs and this has led to renewed interest in rugby in Botswana. Attendance at local games have swelled and the most recent stock of national team replica uniforms was sold in one day. The Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) has 17 development officers working in 70 schools across the country but it is proving difficult to keep up with the increasing demand to learn the game. The BRU development manager Zilwele Khumalo points that there is need for more qualified coaches. "If we plan to meet our goal of seeing rugby developed in Botswana, we must develop coaches and partner with organisations like The King's Foundation."

The foundation is a UK Christian sports charity that has a growing presence and influence on grassroots sports development in Botswana. The King's Foundation recently received a Vision 2016 Award for its work in Francistown. "Our goal is to see children's lives transformed (emotionally, physically and spiritually) through our sports outreach programmes," said the King's Foundation director Matt Loewen. "Partnering with the BRU brings new excitement for our volunteers, adds credibility to our programmes and assists the BRU's grassroots development in Botswana," Loewen added.
