Botswana Football Association (BFA) Tshepo Mphukuthi has said the Under-20 women's team did not perform badly despite the 13-1 aggregate loss to Ghana in the qualifiers for the World Cup.

The team was hammered 4-1 in the first leg in Gaborone before a 9-0 humiliation away. The women were in their first outing in the qualifiers and set-up a date with Ghana after overcoming Lesotho. Mphukuthi said he believes they have a strong side and that needed time before it can compete strongly. He added that since the girls now know how tough competition is at the international level, they will do better next time.

He said the team's abilities like speed reaction and vision still need a lot of improvement. He added that they could not organise build-up matches for the team during the qualifiers because of financial reasons. He said the BFA failed to secure the services of a psychologist for the team after the specialist who had been offered failed to pitch up.
