Volleyball woes continue

The national men volleyball team failed to arrest its slide in international competitions after finishing second last at the nine-nation African Cup of Nations, which ended on Monday.

The team was making its debut at the competition and won one match and lost two.
Despite the lowly finish, Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) president, Daniel Molaodi said the team did well considering that this was its maiden appearance. He said that judging by the score lines, the team's performance has improved. He said in the past Botswana used to lose by huge margins against the same opponents it came up against at the African Cup of Nations.

Botswana was in Pool A with hosts Morocco, Algeria, defending champions Egypt and Gabon. The team beat Gabon 3-0 and proceeded to the next stage where it lost 3-0 to Libya in the position five to eight playoffs. In the last game, Botswana faced neighbours South Africa for position seven and eight play-offs and suffered a 3-2 defeat.
