Variawa elated to break Nissan's record

Thirty two-year-old Indian Shameer Variawa, was excited to finish ahead of the pack on Sunday, as sand-masters, or special vehicles put up a remarkable showing in the Toyota 1000km Desert Race.

Variawa's win relegated traditional overall winners Nissan, to  4th place finish overall.

Last year's overall winner of the Toyota 1000 Desert race Duncan Vos  finished  4th but still won the special vehicle's category. His  Navara was dripping water from the radiator as it reached the finish line.  He admitted it was by stroke of luck that he finished the race on Sunday.
