Van Kierkek wins junior tennis event

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Junior tennis player, Chris Van Kierkek powered his way to victory in the inaugural Backline Phikwe Junior championship. Van Kierkek proved too good for Pako Mbekela as he won in straight sets of 6-1, 6-3 in the final of the Under-13 boys' category.

The former Under-13 national team player never looked in danger of losing the match played under sweltering heat. Palang Gogannekgosi won bronze, while Tumi Tumisang got a consolation prize. In the girls Under-13 section, favourite, Itumeleng Legwete was no match for her opponent, Boago Lekone whom she beat 7-5, 6-0 in the final.

Ajoa Aquinno was third and walked away with the bronze medal.  Mpho Mbizo was crowned champion of the Under-11 boys section, overcoming Innocent Tidimane in a pro-set, 8-6 in the final, while Onkabetse Mompati came third. Botho Sanki is the Under-11 girls' champion after defeating Khumo Letswe in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 in the final. Violent Kegakgametse took home the bronze.
