Unheralded Cairns thrusts into bowls limelight

Winning the national bowls singles championship has thrust little known Patrick Cairns into the limelight as he prepares to conquer the world in the World Champion of Champions to be held in Cyprus later this year. Cairns tells Mmegi Sport Correspondent, CALISTUS KOLANTSHO about his sudden rise to the top

Mmegi Sport: Who is Patrick Cairns?
Cairns:
I am 33 years old. I was born in South Africa and have been  residing in Botswana since 2010.

Mmegi Sport: When did you start playing bowls?
Cairns:
I began playing bowls in Klerksdorp, South Africa in 2008. Klerksdorp is one of the biggest clubs in the North West province and it was a great place to get a foundation in the game. Apart from having a number of really skilled players, the club atmosphere was always excellent and very responsive to newcomers.
