UB hosts mid-season basketball tourney

The event is sponsored by BBA in partnership with AKTIV Sports. Six women teams and 12 men sides are expected to do battle in the tournament at the UB basketball court.

BBA technical director, Mothusi Thipe said a top Zimbabwean side, Maverics has been invited to the tournament. The competition is meant to keep players active ahead of the start of the second round of the league on August 22. Thipe said the tournament offers local teams a chance to test their strength ahead of the second round after recruiting new talent in the transfer window. "This tournament will provide teams with an opportunity to test new players they signed during the league break. It will help to keep players in shape during the break," Thipe said. He added that the Zimbabwean club will raise the level of competition.
