Two Enter Fray For BSA Top Post

After months of speculation, two aspirants have announced that they will stand for the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) presidency. The race for the top seat pits BSA marketing and publicity officer Tshekiso Mokgatle and former executive committee member Bobby Makhekhe. Mokgatle said being in the executive committee puts him in a better position to scoop the top seat.

He added that he has learnt much under the leadership of current president Marumo Morule, who is not seeking re-election. He said he has learnt much about what he calls 'softball politics' and he is now better positioned to address BSA's problems. He cited the implementation of the strategic plan and scouting for sponsorship as some of the things that he would like to improve. He said the position of BSA president requires a visionary who is accommodative of all the parties. Mokgatle is confident that with the support of all the stakeholders, he would improve softball in Botswana. He said people should shift from the mindset that only the executive committee has a duty to take all actions in the sport.

"I have also learnt how to deal with people at individual level," he told Monitor Sport. The 30-year-old Mokgatle started playing softball with Bears Club in 1992 while he was a student at Nanogang Community Junior Secondary School. He stopped playing in 1997 when he left for studies abroad. He was elected to his current position last year.
Mokgatle promised to do everything in his power to improve softball and he expects to get full support from all stakeholders. He said one of his major tasks would be to lure senior players back to the game to start a Masters' League.
