Tennis duo, Tshegofatso Tsiang and Thato Holmes have qualified for the Africa Junior Championships (AJC). The two made the cut after garnering the required points at the ITF/CAT Southern Africa Junior Championships, which Botswana hosted last month.

Holmes and Tsiang, both Under-14 players, accumulated 180 and 170 points respectively to qualify for the AJC in Tunisia next month. Tsiang is based at the High Performance Centre in South Africa. In Tunisia, Tsiang and Holmes will be campaigning together with compatriot, Innocent Tidimane, who qualified due to his high ranking.

Botswana team coach, Wellington Sibanda told Mmegi Sport he expected more players to make it to Tunisia. “I was targeting at least three players from the junior teams but I am sure these two will represent us well,” he said. The coach said the absence of outstanding player, Marang Makolo during the qualifying tournament was a blow as she would have made the cut.
