Tshosane strengthens squad after Ethiopia verdict

National team coach Stanley Tshosane will reinforce his COSAFA squad and use it to ramp up his charges ahead of the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against South Africa in September.

This comes after Ethiopia were docked three points by FIFA on Monday in World Cup qualifying for fielding an ineligible player in a game against the Zebras last month.FIFA ruled that Ethiopia forfeited its 2-1 win in Botswana on June 8 because Minyahile Beyene played in that game when he was suspended for receiving two yellow cards in earlier qualifiers. FIFA awarded the match to Botswana 3-0, throwing the Zebras’ campaign a lifeline. The sanction means Ethiopia is only two points ahead of second-placed South Africa and three ahead of Botswana.

And Tshosane believes the Group A leaders, Ethiopia, are no longer guaranteed a place in Africa’s final play-offs for the World Cup going into the final round of games in September. With the DRC-based trio of Dirang Moloi, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Phenyo Mongala having joined camp on Monday night, Tshosane said he was expecting two more South Africa-based stars ahead of the COSAFA matches in Zambia this week.
