BOBONONG: University of Botswana (UB) lecturer and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) secretary general, Taolo Lucas donated P3,500 and eight balls to Second Division side, Peace Makers over the weekend.

Though the top club in Bobirwa, Peace Makers has been struggling financially. During the donation, Lucas said he was compelled to act after the club suffered due to financial constraints when it represented the Selebi-Phikwe-Bobirwa region in the recent play-offs in Orapa. He said most urban-based clubs have massive support unlike their counterparts in rural areas and the trend needs to be reversed. He urged clubs in Bobirwa to try to qualify for the Premier League in the next five years to boost the local economy. He said currently only lower division clubs that do not pull huge crowds play in the area.

"You tend to disassociate football or sports in general from the government but they are interrelated. Take time and approach your leaders for assistance and by now, there would be high profile football played in Bobirwa."
