Two football electioneering top dogs have apologised to the soccer fraternity for having a go at each other on national television last week.

Things got out of hand on Thursday in a debate between Maokaneng Bontshetse and Puma Matlhware - chief campaigners for this Saturday's Botswana Football Association (BFA) polls. Bontshetse is leading the campaign for the return of former BFA president David Fani, while Matlhware is the chief strategist of the incumbent Phillip Makgalemele.

Bontshetse told Monitor Sport on Friday night that he highly regrets uttering bad words on television. "Puma is like a brother to me and I was not supposed to have said those words. On Wednesday, I was called to come and say something about our campaign and the following day, I was called again to come and respond to Matlhware's words," he said. He stated he has no problem with the Makgalemele camp.
