The Vultures run riot over Zimbabwean team

The Botswana national rugby team, The Vultures' preparations for the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Cup started on a good note as the team won 32-19 against Matebeleland Provincial team from Zimbabwe over the weekend. The game was played at Selebi-Phikwe stadium.

The game started with the Zimbabwean team getting a try through.Thabani Sakupwanya on the 10th minute and he also took the convention. The team enjoyed the lead, but The Vultures stated pushing for catch up points, playing good rugby. Hugo Botha did not waste time as he ran from the middle of the park to score a try on the 15th minute and Bernie de Beer took the convention but missed. After getting the first  try, The Vultures started controlling the game. Kagiso Molefhi came from the back to get a try for The Vultures on the 27th minute and de Beer was able to score  through convention. The game went for the half time break with The Vultures leading  25-7. After the break, The Vultures made some changes, introducing Condrad Ntsebe, Thato Ndove, Baleseng Goloswang, Lesedi Keekae and Eddie Ernest. Matebeleland side seemed determined to get back into the game .The side gave their opponents a tough time as the game gained momentum.

However, the Vultures scored another try courtesy of Ernest and Botha was at hand  to score the conversion.Towards the dying minutes of the game, Theo Weale scored a try for his side and the conversion was taken by Sakupwanya.Speaking to Sport Monitor after the game, The Vultures coach, Ivor Greaves said he was impressed by the way his players performed. He explained that since this was a preparatory game, each player was working hard to book a space in the final squad. Greaves said that he had brought 36 players and he is still to cut the number down to 25.He said that in the first half, there was continuation but when he made changes in the second half, the momentum went a bit down. Greaves also gave credit to Botha. He stated that the backline had a great game and also gave credit to the forward for the wonderful game.
