This week, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare announced the lifting of a ban on sport activities. Reactions varied but were mostly of excitement as an industry that was now accumulating dust, finally sputters back to life. But is there a dark tunnel at the end of this week’s light, asks Mmegi Staff Writer, MQONDISI DUBE

The minister’s announcement on Tuesday shone a light on a comatose industry that has been lying haplessly for more than a year. Some local footballers have not kicked a ball in a competitive match since March 2020.

There are fears some players have quit while others have ventured into other sectors in a bid to salvage a living.
