The Herbst to take part in Mantshwabisi

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Two residents of Selebi-Phikwe will take part in the Toyota 1,000 Desert Race (Mantshwabisi) over the weekend.

Hendrick Herbst and his 16-year-old daughter, Elrica will be participating in the quad bikes category. Herbst said that motor racing runs in the family. His wife races for fun and his daughter has just got an off-road licence. It will be Elrica's first off-road event in Botswana after racing in South Africa. She will be entering the Desert Race with experience she gained from the few years she has been participating in different off-road races.

Herbst himself is participating in the Desert Race for the second year running. He explained that they will be racing with Yamaha 450 quad bikes. "I took part last year and managed to finish the race. In this race, it is not all about winning but finishing. I also took part in some off-road events in South Africa early this year and managed to win in my class," he said. He got involved in motor racing after watching the sport on television. He said motor sport is a dangerous but a relaxing sport.
