"This deal is too good for me to believe. I do not think that these guys will deliver on their promise.

But only time will tell if they have money," said a football supporter at Lekidi Centre in Gaborone on September 26 after the announcement that Monhumutapa African Broadcasting Corporation (MABC) had availed $9.5m to sponsor the Premier League for three years.

At the time, the supporter argued that the amount is too much for Botswana football considering that Mascom sponsored the league with P4.5m over three years. Critics and sceptics got more ammunition to discredit the deal when the planned launch on October 4 was postponed at the last minute with claims that the smooth-talking sponsors had no money.
