The Athletes Who Glittered On The Botswana Sports Scene

Chess - Phemelo Khetho

This was the highest score at the Olympiad by any Motswana chess player since Botswana started taking part in the Olympiad.
Before this,  the best Olympiad record by a Botswana player was 66 percent by Board 4 player, Emmanuel Tseleng, at the 1990 Olympiad where he managed six victories, drew four, and lost two of his 12 games.

Athletics - Daniel Lagamang
The McConnell College student won a silver medal in the 800m in the Commonwealth Youth Championships in India two months ago against stiff competition from Kenyan junior Olympic gold and silver medalists, Mutinda David and Olekei Raphael.
The race was won by South African Jonas Cylof, whom Lagamang outpaced in the semi-finals. The youngster is coached by Adam Latham.
He was not at all happy with his silver medal. "I am disappointed because I always beat the winner, and I should have won the gold," said Lagamang.
