Tears of joy as GU stage narrow escape

There was drama at the SSKB Stadium in Mogoditshane when Gaborone United (GU) fans wept in jubilation after the Reds escaped into the next round of the knock-out Coca-Cola Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The fans were overcome by emotion after GU outwitted Mogoditshane Fighers in a post-match penalty shoot-out 4-2 to avoid the humiliation of being tossed out by a First Division side. The supporters had more reason to celebrate because they got ample revenge after the Mogoditshane side kicked GU out of the cup last season.

Fighters threatened to repeat the feat yesterday when their Zambian striker, Marco Kamwimba cancelled out Mandla Mgadla's first half strike for GU with three minutes of regulation time left. The goal sent shivers down the spine of Moyagoleele's supporters as the game headed to the shoot-out.
