TASC defeat aces, Miscellaneous in netball league

FRANCISTOWN: TASC netball club kicked off 'My spar 2011 netball league' on a high, thrashing Miscellaneous of Serowe and Continental Aces of Selebi-Phikwe in the first round of the Northern Zone games played at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education Courts on Saturday.

The defending champions, TASC, played Miscellaneous in their first games and won 90-14 before humiliating Continental Aces 103-12. The three-year deal Botswana Netball Association (BONA) signed with Spar seem to have motivated The Tango girls, as the TASC netball team is adorably called. Spar sponsors the league with P1.2 million. With the big names TASC have in their squad, Continental Aces were helpless in the courts in all the quarters. The unstoppable national team goal scorer Violate Moabi continued where she stopped last season netting baskets for her side time and again giving Continental Aces' goalkeeper no room to stop her. Moabi's towering stature favours her when it comes to finding baskets. In their defence, TASC girls relied on the huge skills of Kelebogile Mangole as she kept the opponents' attack at bay. All in all, TASC has six names playing for the national team.

Contacted, TASC Manager Benson Ntereke said morale was high amongst his players. He said the players are working hard in training. He said his team has remained undisturbed for a long spell, hence they are now in their fluidity and understanding of one another on the pitch.  According to him, most of these players have 10-15 years playing for TASC. The Northern Zone Chairperson, Keene Tjikwakwa, said the league started well with the teams showing the motivation to compete in the Spar League. She said there are some teams that did not turn up for the games such as Serowe Arsenal and Motlakase from Palapye.
