Table tennis players cry foul

Local table tennis players are crying foul over what they term neglect of the sport due to lack of sponsorship over the years.

Table tennis is one of the marginal sports in the country and has received little backing from the corporate sector. "Table tennis is facing problems because there are no sponsors and people are not coming to support the game. Maybe it is because the people that are mandated to run the sport only do it on a part-time basis because they have other jobs. If we had people focusing on running the game, things could be different.

Everyone focuses on football more than any other sport in this country," said women national champion, Boitshwarelo Butale. She said most women players in the country are shunning the sport after leaving secondary school. There are plans to start a table tennis league when funds become available.
